A feud has raged for years between the MacGregor and Campbell clans, but Anne MacGregor never thought she’d be the pawn to barter peace. When her father, the MacGregor clan chieftain, offers her hand in marriage to the son of the Campbell clan leader, Anne is stunned. Niall Campbell is a fierce warrior and known as the Wolf of Chruachan. How can she stand being married to such a man?

After losing his beloved wife in childbirth, Niall has no desire to marry again. But when he’s captured by the MacGregor clan, marriage seems a better alternative than death at his enemy’s hand, especially if the union forges peace between clans. Still, he’s not sure how welcome his bride, who is known as a healer, will be among his superstitious clansmen.

Niall has discovered a traitor is responsible for his capture. As he covertly searches for the man responsible, he alienates those closest to him, including Anne. Is the traitor someone who hopes to gain leadership of the clan for himself? Is it someone who doesn’t want peace among rival clansmen? Or could it be the very woman he’s coming to love?

Child Of The Mist is an awesome book. It’s loaded with conflict, suspense, and romantic tension. Poor Niall, though his physical prowess is not to be challenged, inwardly, he is vulnerable and afraid to trust anyone, even those closest to him. He struggles to maintain leadership of the Campbell clan while the very foundation seems to be crumbling around him. He’s taken a wife, whose spirit and beauty he admires, but he’s afraid to trust her, because she’s the daughter of his enemy. Anne is tossed into the enemy’s camp and forced to make the best of it. At first, she fears her new husband, but soon grows to admire the man, even though he won’t lower his defenses when she’s around.

Nothing goes right for Niall and Anne. From the start, the Campbell clan suspects Anne of evil-doings, and several key clansmen seek to destroy her. A heinous traitor works behind the scenes to ruin everything that Niall tries to establish. Jealousy and the desire for power battle love and honor in Child Of The Mist, Book One in These Highland Hills, an exciting new series by Kathleen Morgan. You won’t want to miss reading this thrilling book.
