Edward Hunter has been gone for five years. His ship went down and he was a castaway on an island ships seldom visited. Now he’s home and so eager to find Abigail Bowman, his fiancée, he doesn’t even stop at home to se his mother.
But five years is a long time, and while Abigail grieved for three years, she has moved on and now she’s in love with Jacob Price, Edward’s cousin. Jacob was on the ship with Edward when it went down, but he was in a different lifeboat and his boat was found and rescued. Jacob has taken Edward’s place in the family business, and is engaged to Abigail.
Edward doesn’t seem to belong any more. Everything is so different. Deborah, Abigail’s younger sister is a lovely young woman now. Edward tries to mourn the loss of Abigail, but somehow his thoughts keep turning to Deborah.
Susan Page Davis always tells a good story. She has an eye for historical detail and her characters are warm and believable. The Castaway’s Bride is a charming historical romance with a twist.
