Griffith Gruffly is a bully. Plain and simple. He didn’t even feel bad about being a bully. He was the best bully at Lincoln school, and he knew it. When Griffith gets a new English teacher, they got into a debate. The teacher says he could tell the story of his life, but oddly, Griffith finds himself in a forest surrounded by mythical creatures, Grizebulls. The people of that are servants to the Grizebulls, but Griffith thinks that is wrong. He wants to eliminate Grizebulls so the people will serve him.

At lunch, Griffith makes an announcement that its time to rebel from the Grizebulls, and have a life of their own. But no one would listen. Griffith throws the Grizebulls food on the floor, angering the Grizebulls, so he terrorizes the people. That night Griffith tries to make plans to eliminate the Grizebulls. Will Griffith succeed in his plans? Will he learn an important lesson about bullies in the process?

A Bully’s Doom is the first book I’ve read by Robert Hansen. I liked this book because the teacher seems the kind to be able to change someone. The kid that Griffith picked on was a Christian and he really had a good attitude about the whole thing. I didn’t like it because Grizebull and Griffith had one desire, to have others serve him. And that is just not a Christian attitude. We need to serve others and not God.

The story did start to drag in the middle, but otherwise, I thought that A Bully’s Doom is a good book for kids. It is entertaining and does teach a valuable lesson. I couldn’t put this book down, and had to keep reading to find out what happens. Pick up A Bully’s Doom for your favorite tweener today. $10.95. 128 pages.
