Reuben's Atonement by Lynette Sowell
The Wilson brothers are on the run. At least Ruben and Colt are. It was just there bad luck that Caleb and Benjamin tailed them all the way from Wyoming. Now with the law on their tail Ruben and Colt can’t take the younger boys back home. In fact, they have to separate, leaving six-year old Benjamin behind with Sadie, a good-hearted Saloon owner. The brothers vow to meet again in one year, but even the best laid plans go astray.
Reuben didn’t make it back to the one-year reunion. He didn’t spend much time staying out of trouble either. Now, after spending time in prison and getting religion, he’s back in Raiders Crossing just in time to bury his mother.
Charlotte Jeffers has always loved Reuben, but he was the wild one, leading his brothers astray. Now he’s back and more handsome than ever, and, if he wasn’t one of the Wilson boys he’d be one more eligible man in town. Reuben wants to find his brothers and make sure they’re all right. He also wants to win Charlotte’s love and trust, but it’s difficult to over come his past.
Lynette Sowell spins a good romantic tale. Reuben’s Atonement is a well-written story of love and redemption, of grace and forgiveness and of a love too strong to die.
The Peacemaker by Diann Mills
Colt Wilson is out of prison and on a quest. He knows the right way to live, even if he’s never followed it. From now on, he’ll abide by the law, because he has no intention of going back to prison. First, though, he has some personal business to take care of. Years ago, Colt and Will Langley committed a robbery, and he figures it’s time for Will to pony up his share. The man can’t expect to keep it all, now can he? When he reaches Willow Creek he learns Will is dead and his widow Anne is running the ranch. She has two daughters to raise, and a woman in her situation has to be tough.
Anne has just fire two hands and since she’s short of help and Colt is looking for work, she hires him. Problem is, the lady boss expects her employees to attend church, even if Colt’s snoring is so loud he drowns out the preacher. Colt knows big brother Reuben got religion, but he’s not interested. He’s not interested in a bossy female like Anne Langley either, or not much, anyway.
DiAnn Mills historical fiction is always a treat. Her characters, both male and female, are strong minded and hard to tame. Plenty of conflict here, seasoned with romance and a dash of suspense.
Outlaw Sheriff by Kathleen Miller Y'Barbo
Caleb Wilson, the third brother, rode into Dime Box with his head high. At twenty-seven years of age, the Lord had given him a clean heart and a new start and he was going to act the part. When the mayor mistakes him for Cal Wilson, the new sheriff, Caleb tries to set him straight, but no one listens.
Lydia Wilson is spoiled, self-willed, and in trouble. Willful disobedience has got her suspended from yet another boarding school and her mother has shipped her to Dime Box as a mail order bride. The groom to be is none other than Cal Wilson, the real sheriff, whom Caleb is unintentionally impersonating. The entire town expects Caleb and Lydia to marry, but both bride and groom are unaccountably reluctant.
Kathleen Miller Y’Barba excels in historical romance. Outlaw Sheriff is a fast-paced, fun story about two people who learn that life goes smoother when you’re where God wants you to be. There’s a nice twist to the end that will catch the reader by surprise.
A Gamble On Love by Tamela Hancock Murray
Benjamin, the six-year old who was abandoned by his brothers has grown up to be a professional gambler. He’s still at Sadie’s where his brothers left him, but now he enjoys the wild side of life. Benjamin earns his living cheating at cards with the help of a beautiful saloon girl named Pearl.
Then Pearl’s mother gets sick and she goes home to take care of her. Since he loves Pearl, he feels as if he has no choice except to follow her. However, Pearl’s mother isn’t very happy with her wayward daughter and she isn’t about to have a card shark under her roof. In her opinion it’s time enough to talk about love when there’s a wedding band on her daughter’s finger. Can the gambling man and former dance hall girl find happiness together?
A Gamble in Love is a tantalizing tale of the wild-west with plenty of romance and humor. It will keep you smiling to the end.
All four of these women are seasoned writers. Their stories are filled with memorable characters in unusual situations. Add well-developed plots and a good faith message and each of these stories is a winner. If you like romance set in the old west, you can’t miss with Brothers of the Outlaw Trail.
