“From Halter TO Altar”

by Cathy Marie Hake

When Jim Collingswood arrives at the train depot in Lickwind, Wyoming, expecting his order of four bridles to be in, he gets the shock of his life. Instead of horse tack, he has four young women waiting on him. Someone mistook bridles for brides. Now Jim has to protect the women from a town of randy men, all the while wishing he could be rid of his troublesome burden. Matty, the social butterfly, wants to make friends with each man she meets. But Jim knows being friends is the last thing these men want. Can Jim keep the four women-and his heart-corralled and safe, all at the same time?

“From Carriage To Marriage”

by Janelle Burnham Schneider

Corrie Craig never wanted to be a mail-order bride, but living with her selfish brother-in-law, Ellis Stack, is even less appealing. When her three unmarried sisters travel west, seeking husbands, Corrie tags along. A young widow, still in mourning and pregnant with her first child, Corrie can't imagine the thought of taking another husband. As the months go by, Corrie gets to know Luke Collingswood, her new brother-in-law, and his kindness and concern whittle down her resistance. When her pregnancy takes a bad turn, Corrie is bed-ridden. Using the time to revaluate her life, she feels she's nearly forgotten her deceased husband, the father of her child. Chastised, Corrie seeks God. Will her new resolve put an end to her growing relationship with Luke?

“From Pride To Bride”

by JoAnn A. Grote

When Gideon Riker, Lickwind's saloon owner, offers to rent his brand new house to Bess and Bertie, they move to town, hoping to make a go of their baking business. Bess is surprised that Gideon goes out of his way to make sure they have what they need and are safe from the town's riffraff. But when Bess opens her door to teach one of Lickwind's soiled doves to read, Gideon puts his foot down. Fuming, Bess reluctantly concedes to his wishes, but will things backfire on Gideon when Bess starts teaching in a new location?

“From Alarming To Charming”

by Pamela Kaye Tracy

Bertie Craig, the youngest of the Craig sisters, is determined not to conform to all the rules of femininity her sisters try to force on her. Wearing her father's old felt hat, the young tomboy couldn't care less about her appearance or behavior-until Thomas Hardin steps off the train. When Thomas confuses her for a boy, Bertie sets out to change. But is it too late? Has Thomas already written her off as a foolish young woman?

I love the premise for Bride For A Bit. The four novellas center around a mistake. Jim Collingswood advertised for sturdy, dependable horse bridles. Ellis Stack was so anxious to get rid of his four sisters-in-law so he could solely own their family's dairy farm that he misread the advertisement, thinking it said sturdy, dependable brides. And so the adventure begins.

I was impressed by the excellent continuity between stories. Even though the novellas are penned by four different authors, the characters remained true to their own personality throughout the book. The heroines are to be admired. Four women, who lost all they'd ever known except each other, are sent to the wilds of Wyoming only to discover it's been a mistake. Rather than caving under, these women buck up and forge a home for themselves, even against the demands from some of the townsfolk that they should return back home. The poor men of Lickwind never knew what hit them. The heroes are strong, honorable men. The plot of each story moves forward at a good pace and is certain to entertain and hold your interest. Bride For A Bit is an anthology of delightful inspirational romances that will have you chuckling from the get-go.
