Title: Boo Hiss Author: Rene Gutteridge Publisher: WaterBrook Press ISBN: 1-4000-7143-7 Genre: Inspirational/Contemporary/Fiction
When a teen boy loses his pet, the residents of Skary, Indiana, want to help him find his beloved animal—until they learn the pet isn’t a cuddly cat or dog, but instead a Rosy Boa Constrictor with two heads.
When a soccer field complex springs up over night and a local coffee shop begins to offer overpriced beverages, the residents wonder what is happening to their sleepy little town. The pastor begins to rethink his calling when a new woman moves in and starts taking over.
And through it all, their famous author Wolfe Boone can’t seem to find his writing niche since he decided to quit writing horror. Will Wolfe be able to find his muse in the midst of reptile-induced chaos?
Boo Hiss is the third book in the Boo series, which also includes Boo and Boo Who. Boo Hiss is the first book I’ve had the opportunity to read in the series, and it easily stands alone.
Wolfe Boone and the other characters are well developed, and I even grew to care for the secondary characters (though I couldn’t quite find a soft spot for the snake.) I hoped they would find the reptile before someone suffered a snake-induced heart attack or stroke. I also wondered about all the unusual changes that seemed to happen overnight in town though the culprit behind them wasn’t hard to figure out. I laughed out loud in several spots in the book and had to read them aloud to any captive listener. I highly recommend Boo Hiss for a book you won’t want to miss. $12.99. 338 pages.
