Title: Bittersweet Author: Cathy Marie Hake Publisher: Bethany House ISBN: 978-0-7642-0166-0 Genre: Inspirational/Historical/Romance
Laney McCain has had her eyes on Galen O’Sullivan for years. And once his period of mourning is over, Laney has intentions of making her move. Unfortunately, Galen has only treated her as a pesky tag-along sister.
Galen knows that Laney has her sights on him, but he hopes that in time she will get over her infatuation. But he doesn’t have much time to worry about her, as he discovers squatters on part of his property. Ishmael Grubb offers to work for Galen in return for remaining on the property, and his sister, Ivy, agrees to care for their camp and a plot of garden. But their father is a moon-shiner and could mess things up.
Galen shows mercy to the Grubb family, and continues to treat Laney with kindness. Will Laney win the man of her dreams? Or will she lose him to Ivy?
Bittersweet is the newest novel by Cathy Marie Hake. It’s a sweet historical romance, written in Ms. Hake’s distinct voice. The characters are well developed and interesting, and I felt as though I got to know them through the pages of this book. I wondered how a moon-shiner could have two such responsible children, and hoped he’d get his dues.
The story flowed quickly, and is a interesting read. It held my interest, I couldn’t wait to see how things would work out, even for a pet pig. Pick up your copy of Bittersweet today. It is a cute story and an excellent read. $13.99. 399 pages.
