Title: Attic Treasures Authors: Wanda E. Brunstetter, Tammy Shuttlesworth, Janet Spaeth, Pamela Kaye Tracey Publisher: Barbour Books ISBN: 1-59310-273-9 Genre: Inspirational/Romance Grandma has decided to relocate to an assisted living home in the city of Casper, Wyoming and has put her old Victorian-style house up for sale. She has offered each of her four granddaughters something from the attic. "Grandma’s Doll" (written by Wanda E. Brunstetter) – When Sheila Nickels is offered her pick of items from the attic, she rushes to be the first at the scene. She is only interested in having the baby doll she played with as a child. But to her horror, it isn’t there! Determined to have that doll, Sheila enlists the help of Dwaine Woods, a local antique dealer. Will Dwaine and Sheila find the coveted doll before Sheila has to return home to California? "Fishing for Love" (written by Tammy Shuttlesworth) – Kimber Wilson and her friend, Casey, come to Wyoming together to find the perfect item for Kimber. To Casey’s horror, Kimber bypasses some wonderful old quilts in favor of some old wooden boxes containing fishing gear. When Kimber returns home to Louisiana, she enlists the help of fishing expert Jake Evans to learn everything she can about the antique lures. Will a financial need cause Kimber to give up her cherished antiques? "This Prairie" (written by Janet Spaeth) – Lauren Fielding and her husband, Bob, decide to drive from their high pressure Chicago jobs through the plains of Nebraska to see Bob’s old childhood home on their way to Grandma’s. Lauren learns a lot about Bob’s past and is thrilled to see all the stress Bob has been under fading away. Even though Lauren is too busy to even consider having children, she decides to pick a Christening dress when she gets to the attic. Will she and Bob ever be able to return to Chicago after this idyllic vacation? "Seeking the Lost" (written by Pamela Kaye Tracey) – Jessica Fleming and her boyfriend, retrieve an old chest from the attic. But when a drawer slides open on the way downstairs it reveals secrets her family think best untold. Jessica sets off in search of answers. Photographer Patrick McDonald has unearthed photos by a famous photographer who died during WWII. When his steps begin to trail Jessica’s, they learn some startling truths. Will this put Jessica’s life in danger? Attic Treasures is a charming story of picking out treasures from a cluttered attic full of history. I don’t know how the girls were able to choose only one thing – and so easily! In some of the stories, the attic didn’t have much presence, which was a disappointment, but all in all, the stories were good. My favorite story in the collection is "Seeking the Lost." It had better characterization than the rest of the stories, which, while good, were still a bit flat, and it held my interest until the end. Attic Treasures is worth reading for the last story alone. Pick this 4-in-1 up today. $10.95. 345 pages. |
