Title: Andrea Carter and the Long Ride Home Author: Susan K. Marlow Publisher: Kregel Publications ISBN: 0-8254-3188-3 Genre: Inspirational/Juvenile/Historical/Fiction
Twelve-year-old Andrea Carter seems to be a magnet for attracting trouble. Her whole family treats her like a pesky kid, and when Andi has a really impossible day, she wonders if her family would be happier without her.
After one really frightening day, when Andi gets into major trouble, she saddles up her beloved horse, Taffy and runs away from home. But running away never solves anything, and soon, Andi finds herself struggling to survive, and for the first time, she’s truly alone. Will she ever find her way home?
Andrea Carter and the Long Ride Home is a truly delightful book that is sure to appeal to young girls. Andrea is written very realistically, acting a lot like most twelve year olds. She is a spunky girl, bucking the rules of society and preferring boys’ overalls to the hoops and corsets popular in the late 1800’s.
The faith message is expertly woven in and is not intrusive. My own eleven-year-old daughter loves this story and is anxious to read the rest of the series. I even loved the book. I highly recommend Andrea Carter and the Long Ride Home. It is sure to be a hit with the tweener girls on your list. 128 pages. $7.99 |
