Though the pioneer women of the Canadian wilderness faced long days filled with grueling work, they still found time for romance and love.

In Chastity's Angel, Chastity LeBlanc works hard to make the boardinghouse she runs for her ailing mother a success. All her life she's dreamed of living in her own home, without other people coming and going constantly. But as long as her mother needs her help, she is tied to the boardinghouse.

When her long time friendship with Michael Martin blossoms into something more, Chastity envisions a safe, comfortable future. Then her old schoolmate, Adam Silverhorn, returns, vying for Chastity's affections. Will she choose safe, reliable Michael? Or will she take a leap of faith and give her heart to adventurous Adam?

When Byler Crane, the hero of Crane's Bride, posts a notice for a "God-fearing woman willing to be his wife," he had no idea what troubles lay ahead for him. Marrying the small but feisty Maggie Malone was only the beginning. Before long, Crane is traveling with a whole menagerie.

What really bothers him is that he promised Maggie a marriage in name only, but his heart has betrayed him. Will he be able to prove to Maggie that he's in their marriage for the long-haul and win her affections? Or will her insecurities and past history be too much for her to overcome?

In The Heart Seeks A Home, Lydia Baxter travels by train to her new job as a housekeeper for a family, but she is stunned when her new employers turn out to be two bachelors who live on a secluded ranch.

When the men secure a proper chaperone as Lydia insists on, she agrees to stay until she can find another position. Before long, she finds her heart thawing toward Matt Weber and Sam Hatten. But when a new position with a family opens up, will she leave or will her heart find a home?

In Unchained Hearts, Abby Landor loves life on the new farm where she lives with her twin brother, Andrew, but everything changes in an instant when a brooding stranger kidnaps her. She's forced to ride far away from home into dangerous woods, where her kidnapper becomes her protector.

As much as she hates Brewster Johnson, she can't help feeling compassion for the man who's never been loved by anyone. Can she overcome her fears to show God's love to a man who means to marry her by force?

Chastity's Angel started slow for me, but once the hero came on the scene, it picked up pace. It's a very soul-searching, introspective heart-touching story.  Crane's Bride started off like a race horse and never slowed. It's a fun yet heart-tugging tale sure to keep your interest.

The Heart Seeks A Home is a sweet story of a young woman looking for a place to belong. Unchained Hearts snagged my attention immediately, and I couldn't put it down. It's a dark story at first, but one that will touch you down to the depths of your inner being.

Readers will find everything in Linda Ford's 4-in-1 collection called Alberta Brides. From heart-stopping action to deeply introspective stories, you'll be sucked into the lives of these pioneers of 19th century Canada.

Ms. Ford paints beautiful word pictures with her vivid descriptions, and her characters will leap off the page and seem as real as your next door neighbors.

One thing different about this collection than other Heartsong collections is that all these stories are in a single view point. Normally, I prefer two-character viewpoints because I like to get into both the heroine and hero's heads, but I can see where it would have lessened the conflict, especially in the first and third stories, if you had known right off who the hero was.

Each story has a subtle faith message, and the characters grew in their faith or knowledge of God. I highly recommend Alberta Brides for hours of enjoyable, inspiring entertainment. (478 pages, $6.97)
